Sundowner Formula 1 ARF
Hangar 9’s giant-scale legal Sundowner Formula 1 80-inch ARF is a true sport performer with an aggressive racer fulselage design that makes it look like it’s traveling 100 mph even when it’s standing still. This sport performer looks great, down low on the deck. And then, experience a high-flying adrenaline rush as this spirited, agile racer streaks into a turn at high speed. Because of its smooth flight characteristics and precise sport handling, pilots will feel comfortable even at 120+ mph, making the Sundowner the perfect plane for entry-level giant-scale racing. The two-piece plug-in wing and stab make transporting this giant-scale aircraft a more compact process. A removable top hatch provides admittance to the plane’s interior, and the servo hatch located at the rear of the plane provides access to the rudder and elevator servos. This ARF includes high-quality giant-scale hardware and aluminum wing tubes which provide extreme durability at low weight. The P-40 was one of World War II’s most popular U.S. fighter planes. The last of Curtiss Aircraft’s famous “Hawk” line that originated in the 1930s, the P-40 eventually morphed into the P-40E. This heavily armed and armored craft was used by the American Volunteer Group in China. Hangar 9's ARF version of the venerable P-51D really is unlike any other Mustang ARF we've ever seen. Its impressive .60-size airframe alone sets it apart from other Mustang ARFs that are almost all .40-size. The larger size has allowed Hangar 9 to better match its proportions and lines to that of the real thing since it's not as affected by the scaling issues a .40-size model would face. To ease assembly, Hangar 9 has simplified the servo installation. Aileron servos mount in precut servo bays in the wings. The rudder and elevator benefit from direct servo linkage with precut servo mounts for each in the tail. Having all the servos right next to their corresponding control surfaces like this makes setting up control throws and tweaking links much easier. PTS stands for Progressive Trainer System—groundbreak-ing new technology that allows pilots to progress from learning to fly to performing sport aerobatics without having to upgrade or buy a new airplane. Clear plastic NACA droops attach to the outer edges of the wing, providing beginners with extra stability during training and manipulating the stock airfoil to produce added lift. The fixed landing gear features a special speed brake system that keeps the flying speed down, making the Mustang easy to handle. 2-position flaps add drag, and can be later upgraded to functioning flaps by adding a servo.
